So what are we talking about?

Alround quality

Hyundai i20 dated from 2009 is a small city car, small hatchback, which acutally fits perfectly in small car country, yes.. the Netherlands.

All round quality

I have never before experienced a car where the sun shades just dropped spontaneously on my lap. Well, that actually says enough about the quality of this car. I have been quite handy repairing little stuff about this car. For example these sad little depressed sunshades are repaired successfully as you can see from the picture below, just by using a small screw, petec suberbond and drilling a little.

Engine

transmission: This seems to be a common failure on this car. If there is one thing I simply can’t stand with cars, is oil and fluid leaks. Transmission replaced after 140.000 km approximately repair costs €1100,-

timing chain: This is also another vital part that will fail. this started to tick around 150.000 km, regardless of the regular maintenance and oil change. I have been using Castrol Magnetic 5w30. Presumably, the former owner lacked regular maintenance. How I know this is, well.. as soon as a rat runs out while trying to replace the interior filter you will create an idea. repair costs €1000

I have replaiced the parts with the original from the Hyundai dealer. These are made in India. I’m not sure whether you rather have original parts from India or OEM parts from Germany.

Interior

rattling cracking plastic and more plastic. Though I must say that the seats are remarkably comfortable after 150.000 km, so lets give that a huge shoutout. The original quality of the floor mats are rather extremely poor. Should go for a quality aftermarket fit the perfect fit.

Electronics

At around 145.000 gave the steering ribbon its last breath, no more music! noooo. Yet again as a semi-amator-tiptronic-DIY-hyper-mechanic I have been able to replace this part me myself and I. OEM part: €30,-

Final Verdict

Overall, this little bug has been a slight dissapointment. As I said before, I have been able to repair a lot as an amature DIY mechanic. This would have been quite expensive if you had to visit the garage for every failure. On the other hand this little Korean Indian turd is almost 13 years old, so.. what would you say. And quite remarkable, I do have to mention that no rust whatsoever is under the car. nothing, “Rostfrei! little turd” .

Economy
yet another disapointment, on the paper it says: 19 kilomters on every liter gasoline to the drop. no.. sirrey. overall, 50-50 motorway/ citytrips. you just have to sing cumbaya with just 14 km per each hard earned liter.

So next time a Hyundai

no, noooo, no thank you.

Alternatives

Honestly? my sincere advice would be to go and check a Toyota Yaris… Hai! integrity of Toyota is just the thing you should be looking for. although the interior of a comon Toyota might be a llittle on the dull side, but anno 2022, you may assume this would have been improved.
