I have been researching lately trying to find out the truth about what the correct lubrication is for the brake gliding pens. These are the brake pads that make sure the brake pads are nicely pushed back when letting go of your brake pedal.
Can I use butter too?
There is a lot of misinformation to read on the internet, people are telling you to use copper grease or ceramic grease olive oil, butter etc. but these are all incorrect for I thing is certain that in due time all these kind of grease lose their lubrication capacity, they tend to dry.
I even had written to of the major grease producers, about what the correct lubrication is and they had written that because of the high temperatures I should use ceramic grease. I think this is nonsense, if these pens would have gained these types of temperatures, surely the rubber caps would have melted, right? right! So these pens may increase in temperature but not burning hot.
The best way to lubricate the gliding pens and maintain the rubber caps is by using silicone grease(not silicone spray), yep! a descent silicone grease can uphold temperatures of approximately 250°C. so this is still quite hot but not brake caliper hot like 10000000 billion degrees.
But what am I going to do with ceramic grease
Ceramic and copper greases are more in order to prevent the oxidation of different types of metal contacts.
Try to keep in mind, if you want to preserve rubber from the inside, use silicone grease, and maintaining the outside is done with silicone spray. This is how you keep your rubber nice and elastic. this is my opinion, one should always do his own research and use his common sense.
facts:
– a descent brand silicone grease is resistant up to temperatures between -50°C and 250°C
– provides electrical isolation
– is water resistant
